Captain Zaqari Droq
Name: Zaqari Droq
Age: 33
Species: F'rel'natch
Position: Captain
Bio:
The only survivor of from a failed sleeper colony, Zaqari was found aboard a derelict sub-light vessel in one of that ships few active stasis pods. While a few other pods were found to be active, none of their occupants were able to survive the revival process, leaving Zaqari alone. They [the colony] had been traveling to a set of pre-selected proposed colony worlds thousands of lightyears away from their homeworld after its destruction. Upon further exploration of his ship, it was found that well over twenty-thousand people had, at one time, been held on board in stasis. Further examination of the ship's navigational records revealed that the sleeper colony had been adrift for nearly two-hundred forty thousand years.
The F'rel'natch are a species which, like many other races, resemble Humans externally. However, there are a few slight differences between the two… For example, while Humans have only two genders, the F'rel'natch possess three; one male gender, one female gender, and one which is roughly androgynous. This third sex however, is more of a vestigial gender, as only two are necessary for reproduction, yet is also capable of assuming one or the other genders temporarily. As such, these third sex switchers are prized among the F'rel'natch culture; many holding them as the worldly incarnations of the Gods themselves.
The F'rel'natch also possess a unique cardio-respiratory system. Unique, in that instead of having one heart, they possess a binary-vascular system, of which, function in symbiosis with each of their lungs. Instead of the heart and lung functioning as two separate organs, the F'rel'natch have evolved in such a way, that both now exist as one single body. This allows them the ability to breath in a much wider-variety of atmospheric conditions, but also exposes them to a greater range of dangers, such as injury or infection. As their hearts are able to process gas-exchange and absorption much more efficiently by pumping blood directly through the lungs, this also allows pathogens a much greater window of opportunity for infection.
It was because of this that the F'rel'natch were forced to leave their homeworld. They had damaged their homeplanet’s atmosphere in such a way; forcing particulate matter into the air, along with numerous pathogens, that they could no longer sustain themselves on such a world. So, they constructed a fleet of vessels to carry their entire civilization to the stars, in every direction.
It was because of this info that he was hopeful. So, following his revival and recovery, Zaqari went to Starfleet Command to request any and all information regarding any contact with his species. Unfortunately, Starfleet had no such information for him. Undaunted, he then requested that Starfleet send a vessel to execute a targeted search for any of his people's colony worlds. Had he come to Starfleet Command during virtually any other era, they might have agreed, however, with the recent chaos caused by the destruction of Romulus, and the Klingon's becoming more and more aggressive, Command denied his request.
Realizing that he wasn't going to be receiving help from the Federation any time soon, he decided to begin searching for his people himself. He proceeded to book passage on several transports in an attempt to find his people himself, but with tensions high on all sides of the Alpha Quadrant, and few transport captains willing to brave the areas beyond the Federation space, Zaqari has decided to take matters into his own hands. With the navigational data in hand, Zaqari set-out for the local colonies that his people had once meant to inhabit. A few of them were now colonized by other species, such as Humans and Romulans, and Cardassians, and each had found evidence that another species had once indeed lived on these planets, but those past civilizations had all belonged to the Iconian Empire.
Finally, after searching long and finding little, Zaqari finally hitched a ride aboard an independent research vessel heading for a remote and dangerous area of the Alpha Quadrant. While en route, the ship he was on, the SS Elysium, stopped by at a trading station for one final round of supplies before heading out into the deep and largely unexplored far-side of the Alpha-Quadrant. Unfortunately for the crew of the Elysium, they were all arrested and their ship was impounded by the station's controller. Making things worse, because they couldn't pay off the fines for the impound, the station controller was going to sell all of them off to a group of Orion Pirates.
By a seemingly astounding stroke of luck, before they [the crew] were to be sold off, a well-off friend of the station's controller, known to many simply as "The Collector", agreed to pay off the crew's debts...but out in the frontier, everything comes with a catch. The Collector allowed the crew to leave, so long as Zaqari came with him on board his ship, the SS Mary Rose, as he had information that he was looking for over there.
While this was partially a ruse to get him to voluntarily come with him, he really did have information on the F'ral'nacht. At first, he was allowed full access to the ship and the information, but as they left the station, he was immediately imprisoned by him.
