Name: Quinton Cade
Age: 30
Gender: Male
Species: Human
Position: Chief Engineer
Bio:
If there was anything remarkable about Jonas' early childhood memories, he can't find them. Born to a lawyer and a dancer (father and mother respectively) he was raised, while not in the lap of luxury, in a respectable and comfortable life. He was slightly indulged as a child, though never spoiled.
At the age of fifteen, thanks to his mother's contacts in the entertainment industry, he auditioned for and received the part of the lead character of Jax Levi on the Net Broadcast, Soldiers 5. The show was a pure propaganda push, as recruiters had noted an overall decline since the lull of the wars. It starred Jonas as a 15 year old son of an Admiral, cut off behind enemy lines with a squad of inexperienced marines and pilots, trying to find their way home as well as tasked with making trouble for the United Conglomerate, a fictionalized a version of various “evil planets”. While the show itself lasted for only 3 years, during that time the recruitment numbers almost tripled. During the time, Jonas used some of his money earned to foster his enjoyment of vehicles and the mayhem and excitement that followed. He got a taste for the action during his stunt work on the show, and decided to combine his love of cars with his love of action and joined Starfleet. He took to the engineering easily, having gotten almost 3 years of experience from his own work on the various vehicles he had purchased, as well as picking up what he could from the special effects wizards on the set, though nothing as hectic as what he was put through.
He struggled slightly with formulas, but managed a solid average that put him, while not at the top of his class, at a respectable place. After graduation, he served a dull border patrol guard duty on the Radiant Star, before being transferred to Outpost 8. Mostly older and near retirement engineers were sent there to serve out the remainder of their shifts. But an attentive and open newbie can learn a lot of tricks from these grizzled veterans, as an old engineer is an experienced one. Impressing several higher ups with quick thinking from helping to fix up the various transports and starship that made their way to the Outpost, Jonas was deemed ready to be placed in a nominal position of authority aboard a starship, but this is when, at least for him, tragedy struck.
It came out during the Whiteborne hearings that Jonas had been spotted at an anti-war rally, mainly to impress a pretty girl, but he was there nonetheless. The Starfleet Committee on Un-Federation Activities definitely frowned upon during that particular incident, as they went about their campaign of eliminating anything that was remotely “Non-Starfleet Material.” Jonas, along with almost 200 other soldiers, civilian contractors, and various support personnel were thrown out, fired, or otherwise incarcerated. It was only his ties to the show, poster boy image, and parents’ minor influences that managed to keep him out of jail, despite it probably being the better alternative for him at the time. His pension was disallowed, back pay more or less taken from him, and his record black listed. No reputable engineering firm or star liner would even give him the time of day. He managed to eek out a minor living in a star port, fixing small problems that more or less wanted to make him eat the business end of a phase pistol after the 800th degaussing of a catalyzer. A waste of talents, as it is with most men that seem to end up on the frontier for following their dreams. That is, until he managed to save a captain almost a 300 strips of latinum by re rigging his grav plating with the same wiring, instead of having to replace the whole unit….
